A practical first-session guide

Reiki is a complementary spiritual wellness practice commonly sought for relaxation and reflection. It is not medical or mental-health treatment.

The short answer

You remain fully clothed, begin with a brief conversation, and participate in a quiet session centered on comfort and your stated intention. No special belief or preparation is required.

Before your appointment

Wear comfortable clothing and arrive with enough time that you do not feel rushed. Think about what you want from the visit: quiet reflection, relaxation, grounding or simply curiosity. You never need to share private details that you would rather keep to yourself.

The opening conversation

The practitioner should explain the session, invite questions and ask about your comfort. This is the right time to discuss preferences, boundaries and whether you would rather receive a hands-off approach. Consent is ongoing; you may pause or stop at any time.

During the session

Experiences vary. Some people report warmth, calm, tingling or emotion; others simply rest quietly or notice very little. None of these responses is required, and a dramatic sensation is not a measure of whether the visit was meaningful.

After the session

Give yourself a few minutes before returning to a busy schedule. Drinking water, resting or writing down your reflections may feel helpful. Avoid treating temporary feelings or sensations as a diagnosis. Contact a licensed healthcare professional about medical or mental-health concerns.

Questions worth asking

Ask how long the appointment lasts, what the practitioner’s approach is, whether touch is used, what the price is, and what cancellation policy applies. At Madre Tierra, services are appointment-based and can be requested in English or Spanish.

About the evidence

The U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health states that Reiki has not been clearly shown effective for health-related purposes and should not replace conventional care. Madre Tierra presents Reiki as a spiritual wellness experience for relaxation and personal reflection—not as a cure or medical treatment.
